Chiropractic is a philosophy, science, and art of a nonreligious nature; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column without the use of surgical means, for the correction of in-coordination caused by a Vertebral Subluxation
A few things happen in order to create a Vertebral Subluxation. First, one of the twenty-four movable bones in your back, the vertebrae, moves out of its proper position. Second, this change in position of the spinal bone puts pressure on the nerve system, the communication system of the body. Third, this interference disrupts the communication between your brain and your body causing your body to malfunction.
As stated above, a Vertebral Subluxation disrupts communication between your brain and the rest of your body. These messages do many things:
- Keep you alive – There are messages, traveling up and down your spine, that are literally keeping you alive. The brain is telling the heart when to beat, the lungs when to breathe, and how much stomach acid to produce so that you can digest your food.
- Allow you to move – In order for you to move your muscles so that you can walk, tie your shoes, or run for that touchdown, a message needs to come from your brain, down your spinal cord, and out to the appropriate muscle.
- Regulates the immune system – The nerve system interacts with and regulates the immune system in order to keep your natural defense system functioning at its peak performance. There is a whole branch of science called Neuroimmunology, which is studying how these two systems interact.
- Keeps you coordinated – There are about 100,000,000,000,000 tiny living cells that make up an adult’s body. In order to keep each of these cells alive and thriving, there needs to be exceptional communication between each one of these cells and the brain.
Two main reasons:
- Vertebral Subluxations are extremely common in the general population.
- Chiropractors are the only ones trained and focused on finding and removing Vertebral Subluxations.
We want you and your family functioning at your best, and we believe that you do too.
The “straight” has nothing to do with a person’s sexual orientation. It refers to a chiropractor who sticks exclusively to chiropractic – finding and removing vertebral subluxations. There will be no sales pitches on vitamins, exercise programs, neck braces, massage therapy, etc. Straight chiropractors realize just how important it is to correct vertebral subluxations, and they choose to spend all of their time doing just that.
It should not. There may be times when the care may be briefly uncomfortable, but this feeling should not last. Dr. Dan and Dr. Kris have always focused on making sure their care is as gentle, yet effective, as possible.
There is a universal principle here: All processes take time. Only on T.V. are there “miracle cures” that take only a second, cost pennies, and last forever. In real life there needs to be a constant positive effort in order to see positive change.
Take a look at a professional body-builder. Do they go to the gym one time a year, work out really hard, and then take the rest of the year off? Of course not! They go to the gym every day, for hours at a time.
I know most of you are not professional body builders, but the same applies to you. “Healthy Habits” such as eating right, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, brushing your teeth, and chiropractic care should all be done on a regular basis to keep you as healthy as possible. To that end, we have many payment options that drastically reduce care, for those who are thinking long term.
That decision is up to you! Many people love how they feel and function after they visit their chiropractor. They love this so much, and they understand that they are doing a great thing for their body, so they keep coming and encourage those that they care about to do the same!
This is going to depend on several factors – the condition of your spine, how often you need to come in for care, if your insurance is going to contribute towards your care, etc. We can’t tell how much care will cost, or if we can even help you out without meeting you, talking with you, and examining your spine. Feel free to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Dan or Dr. Kris.
We have a home office located at 859 Washington Street (Rt. 138) in South Easton, Ma. The office is easily accessible from both Rt. 24 and 495. Get directions here.
The first visit will include some paperwork (you can fill out the forms beforehand to save time) a consultation with the chiropractor, a spinal exam, a digital posture analysis, a brief explanation of chiropractic, and you might be sent out for X-rays, if needed. It should last about 45 minutes. Get more details about your first visit.
We pride ourselves in being very respectful of your time. Most of our practice members spend very little time in our reception area.
Yes, our degree is D.C. which stands for Doctor OF CHIROPRACTIC. This means that we can answer just about any question from a chiropractic point of view. If there is anything that we find during our examination or during care that is not of a chiropractic nature, we will refer you to the appropriate professional.
First we needed a four-year undergraduate degree. Both of us graduated from Stonehill College with a Biology degree. After undergraduate college, we received our Chiropractic education. We graduated and received our D.C. degree which stands for Doctor of Chiropractic. During our Chiropractic education, we had to pass 4 parts of the chiropractic national board tests. After successfully completing all of this, we had to meet the state requirements and get our state license.
The chart below shows the chiropractic education versus a medical doctor’s education.

Absolutely not! This is a common viewpoint because many chiropractors have chosen to advertise chiropractic in this manner, but it is leaving out so, so much. This is like saying that your cell phone is a good paperweight. That might be true, but your cell phone would serve you much better by sending and receiving calls. Chiropractic might be effective in allowing the body to get rid of some pain signals, but there is much more to chiropractic than pain relief. Come into the office and find out what we can do for YOU.
We are both available, and either or both of us would love to talk to any group of people that is interested. We have a collection of presentations that we are ready to give, see our Extraordinary Living Series for more details. Contact us and we would be happy to set up a presentation with you or your organization or workplace.
In general an adjustment is a force that a chiropractor applies to your body in order to help remove a Vertebral Subluxation. Usually, we use our hands to produce a gentle, quick, specific thrust. We also have very low force techniques, because one size does not fit all.
Many people believe that the adjustment is the “popping” sound but this is not true. The “crack” or sound that is heard means that the bones in a joint are moving quickly. This can happen either when it is moving into or out of its proper position. That is why chiropractors need to be so well trained. We move exactly what needs to move, and no more. For more information, see the cracking your own neck question.
Picture a suction cup on a window. Now when the suction cup is quickly pulled off the window, a popping sound is heard. A vacuum is created, and the air rushes in to fill this vacuum. Something similar can happen in your body when the adjustment occurs: a small vacuum is created in the space between the bones in your back, the vertebrae, resulting in a temporary influx of synovial fluid, or the dissolved gasses in the synovial fluid. The fluid or the gas rushes into the vacuum that we just created between the bones, causing the sound.
For the same reason that you need Chiropractic care! They have a spine, a nerve system, and messages traveling up and down their spine keeping them functioning properly. Any Vertebral Subluxations will also cause them to function at less than 100%.
Even more importantly, the bones of their spines are still growing and changing shape for the first 25 years of their lives. When kids are born the bones of the back are made up of mostly cartilage, like your nose or your ears. They slowly harden into hard bone over time.
The majority of the hardening takes place within the first 12 years, and then it is “fine-tuned” till you are 25. As these bones are determining their shape and placement for their adult lives, it just makes sense to make sure they are properly aligned, giving your kids their best chance at reaching their potential in life.
This is why we say that kids have the most to gain from Chiropractic! For even more information about kids and Chiropractic, click here.
First, there is no such thing as a “side effect”; there is no law of cause and side effect. There are however unintended effects, which are typically labeled as “side effects.”
“Side effects,” commonly heard in terms of medications, are nothing more than unintended effects that those medications caused in your system, because your body has a slightly different chemistry than anyone else’s.
Some people feel a little discomfort or soreness after being adjusted for the first few times. This is because the body has actually adapted to having these bones in the wrong position. When we help to move them into their proper position, the ligaments, muscles, and tendons that are attached to the bones need time to adapt. During this time, soreness may be expected.
More commonly, people notice an increase in the range of motion of all parts of their spine, decreased symptoms, and a more connected feeling with their body. In essence, Chiropractic allows your body to work at closer to the way it should, allowing you to reach your true potential.

We get asked this question a lot. There are two main problems with cracking your own neck/back.
- The bone that needs to be moved is not usually the one that moves when you “crack” yourself – Most people “crack” their neck/back because they are looking for relief/release. Let’s say bone B is out of position, and stuck. People can feel that there needs to be more movement in this region and try to move it themselves. Unfortunately, when they try to move bone B, it is usually bone A or C that moves. This causes A and C to become hyper-mobile, or too easy to move, while bone B remains hypo-mobile, moves too little. Overall this hyper/hypo mobility cancels each other out, but it wears away at the discs between the bones, producing problems such as arthritis and degenerative disc disease later in life.
- The nerve system travels through openings in these spinal bones – We have no problem when people crack their knuckles, toes, etc in front of us, but when people start doing that with their back or their neck, we get concerned. Traveling down this system of 24 movable bones is your spinal cord, and it is very delicate. Think of cooked pasta that is the width of your thumb. It is very delicate. So delicate, that your body encased it in bone. That is your spinal cord, and it keeps you alive! That is also why spinal cord injuries are so devastating. When you “crack” your back, you can cause a Vertebral Subluxation, a spot where the bones start to interfere with this spinal cord and the nerves branching off of it. Please leave the adjusting to the professionals!
Most people that are “cracking” their neck or back are ideal chiropractic candidates, because their body is already telling them that there is something wrong in that area, and a bone needs to be moved. Contact us so that we can help get everything in place.
Nope. We are chiropractors and we have studied all about how, when, and where to adjust, and even with our years of experience, we can’t adjust ourselves! We rely on each other to move the proper spinal bone where it needs to go. (Please note that twisting your neck or back around until you hear a sound is NOT an adjustment. The sound means a bone is moving into OR OUT OF proper alignment.)
Great question. Yes! If the body receives the proper force, at the proper angle, at the proper time, it can fix its own Vertebral Subluxations. Your body is constantly trying to remove them, which is why part of our analysis is based on what your muscles are doing – stabilizing an area versus moving a specific bone into a different position.
There have been many documented cases of people falling down stairs, getting in accidents, and other traumatic injuries with the end result being that a disease or symptom went away after this traumatic experience. This is the body using those forces to move the bones into place
Chiropractors are here to deal with the Vertebral Subluxations that your body are not able to handle on its own. Could you throw yourself down the stairs in order to correct these Vertebral Subulxations? Theoretically, yes, but Chiropractic care in our office is much safer, and much more likely to get the job done.
We are chiropractors and we do not know when we are subluxated. You cannot base it on how you feel. There are some clues that might indicate possible Subluxations, however. One thing you can check is your posture. Your posture will give you some insight as to how the bones of your spine are positioned. While standing in front of a full length mirror, is one eye, shoulder, or hip higher than the other? While having someone look at you from the side, is your head leaning forward, or is it directly positioned over your shoulders? These are the easiest things to see from a posture point of view. If you see imbalances, or if your head is forward, it would be a very good idea to get a thorough examination at our office.
In our office, we have seen clients with each of these conditions. We will tailor your care to safely remove your subluxations, regardless of whatever else is going on in your body. We adapt to your specific needs, and will deliver care accordingly. To state the obvious – if you just broke the bone, please go to the E.R. If you have any questions about your specific case, call the office at 508-230-5056
Absolutely! There is a definite need for Medicine and the Medical field. There is no better form of crisis care on the planet. Medicine is great at saving your life, or masking symptoms, but it is lacking in restoring health. Many people are voting with their feet and visiting other providers in order to restore and maintain their health.
Yes you can. We will gladly work with your M.D. in order to provide you with the highest level of care that we can. If your M.D. or Pediatrician is anti-chiropractic, we usually find that it is because they have been misinformed about what Chiropractic is and what it is not. We will gladly sit down and talk with them so that they can gain this understanding.
On September 18th, 1895 D.D. Palmer gave the first adjustment to Harvey Lillard. Harvey had been deaf for 17 years, and after the adjustment his hearing came back. D.D. Palmer thought he had the cure for deafness, so he advertised this way. No one else had their hearing restored, but other symptoms did go away in the people he adjusted. He deduced that there must be a connection between someone’s health and their spine and nerve system.
That depends on your goals, your age, the stresses that you encounter on a daily basis, and the condition of your spine. Please call the office to set up an exam so that we can get you this information.
